Montana derives its name from the numerous mountain ranges found in the state. There is no shortage of mountain real estate in Montana, as the area is home to some 50 mountain ranges. The other important landscape in Montana is its wide plains, filled with grassy valleys and various rivers. The natural scenery in Montana is breathtaking, with shades of red, gold, and green found throughout the state, in stone columns and dense forests of pine, fir and spruce trees.
Since the altitude in the mountains is remarkably high, the peaks experience snow for most of the year. In addition, glaciers can be found in some of the ranges, which are well-known for their pristine, clear lakes. In the plains portion of the state, temperatures reach into the 80s during the summer, providing warm, sunny days for residents to enjoy.
The Montana economy enjoyed a reprieve from the recession of 2001 as only one of five states which did not lose jobs. Consequently, the state’s economy, which relies heavily on mining and lumber, has remained strong. Forecasts place job growth in the important mining sector, among others, in the years to come. The population of just over 900,000 enjoys the benefits of the strong economy and some of the most affordable housing options in the nation.
