Wyoming is characterized by two distinct landscapes: the mountains and the plains. Known throughout the world for its famous Yellowstone Park, the wide-open spaces of Wyoming can be overwhelming in their beauty. Forests abound in the western Rocky Mountains, which boasts the well-known Teton Mountains at the Wyoming/Idaho border. The plains are relatively flat until the South Dakota border, when the Black Hills take over. It is in this landscape that the mighty Devil’s Tower National Monument rises up out of the ground to provide on of the most inspirational sites found in the United States.

The continental position of Wyoming means it receives very little rain, even in the mountain areas. Summers are usually warm, with average temperatures in the high 80s. Winters are long and cool, with average snowfall around 60 inches, with more generally occurring in higher elevations.

As one of only five states which did not lose jobs during the 2001 recession, Wyoming has had a head start on employment numbers. The economy has remained strong, with robust gains in employment, most notably in the government, health services, and education sectors. With a median home price of around $130,000, the Wyoming population of 507,000 benefits from affordable housing and the solid economy.
